The Best Time to Go Chimps and Gorilla Habituation
An opportunity to spend extended time with these intriguing primates as they become accustomed to the presence of humans is offered through habituation experiences with chimpanzees and gorillas. These encounters are rare and exclusive.
Habituation sessions usually run between four and six hours, as contrast to regular trekking, which only allows for one hour of engagement with the primates. This provides for a more in-depth comprehension of the primates’ behaviors, interactions, and daily routines.
But when is the most optimal time to visit in order to become accustomed to chimpanzees and gorillas? Before you start planning your vacation, let’s discuss the best times of year, the weather conditions, and the elements you should take into consideration.
Best Time for Chimpanzee and Gorilla Habituation
When the trails are less muddy and visibility is higher, the greatest time to experience chimpanzees and gorillas in their natural habitat is during the dry seasons.
In the dry season, the best months to travel are from June to September.
The short dry season lasts from December to February.
During these months, the conditions for hiking are more favorable, making it more pleasant to observe primates in their native environment.
Is it advisable to travel during the rainy season?
It is true that the rainy season (March to May and October to November) is more difficult to navigate due to the presence of muddy pathways; however, this season also provides a beautiful, green environment and fewer tourists, which makes the experience more exclusive.
